Living Coral is the Pantone Color of the Year Florida’s Been Waiting For

Last month, Pantone named their 2019 color of the year: Living Coral. It’s a vibrant, playful, uplifting color tailor-made for Florida’s coastal homes. Fittingly, Pantone made their announcement in Miami, home of the Portofino Tower that is famous for sporting the breathtaking pinkish-orange hue (as well as housing numerous celebrities).
Florida is one of only two states in the continental US to have extensive coral reef formations off its coast. In many ways, Florida’s architecture and design is, at its heart, a reflection of this unimaginable landscape. And for many homeowners in the area, Living Coral is a color that already resonates deeply with them.

Incorporating Living Coral into Your Space

Add vibrancy to neutral palates with bold, yet restrained tile accents. This Devotion Echo Pattern Stardust Blend tile from FDW supplier Oceanside Glass & Tile features a mix of textures and colors as rich and varied as true living coral.

This bathroom features an almost entirely neutral palette, but the smart use of texture and color makes it feel complete—not boring.

Design Works added color and interest to this shower with bright, energetic glass tile accents. The gorgeous coral hue softens the sharp lines of the geometric pattern, creating a look that is equal parts masculine and feminine.

If you’re not ready to incorporate Living Coral into your home permanently, adding art, flowers or linens that feature the color will allow you to easily update the look of your space and test out a few trends. Speaking of which…

These lilies add a breath of life to this bathroom. We love the juxtaposition of the flowers against the sleek quartz countertop and tile accent wall.

Imagine the same flowers against this insanely intricate and gorgeous quartzite slab! Pairing the colorful lilies with white roses would help to pull out the coral undertones for a subtle, but nonetheless stunning effect.
